The Assistant Controller will oversee all aspects of the monthly close process, financial statement, and audits (401K, bank and financial). In addition, the Assistant Controller will lead, guide, train and develop a team of direct reports and participate in all hiring and training of Accounting staff. This position will also assist with implementing accounting policies and procedures as well as maintenance of internal controls.


  • Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting of the company's operational and financial performance.
  • Prepare/oversee the monthly consolidation of financial statements for review by the VP, Controller and CFO.
  • Prepare and review reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and continued training and development to Accounting team.
  • Assist in the hiring and training of new Accounting Team staff
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the corporate accounting team.
  • Conduct periodic, including annual performance reviews for staff.
  • Approve timecards, PTO requests, etc.
  • Coordinate and act as point person for all audit activities, including but not limited to, the Annual Financial Statement, bank and 401(k) audits, seeing them through to completion.
  • Oversee the weekly preparation and dissemination of the 13 Week Cashflow Forecast.
  • Act as a liaison to HR Payroll function reviewing payroll processing and corporate payroll tax compliance, and verify reimbursement of employee expense reports
  • Perform various analyses including but not limited to bonus accruals, accounts receivable aging, DSO, and allowance for doubtful accounts.
  • Serve as bank and credit card admin or as back up (including creation of ACH/Wire templates and approval of ACH/Wires)
  • Support department goal of assuring compliance with internal controls and monitors Company compliance with various processes
  • Continually monitor and implements enhancements to various technologies used
  • Work to improve current reporting from both the General Ledger and Concur to extract detailed data for use by management and in the close process
  • Work with the Controller and other members of management regarding the implementation of new accounting pronouncements, acquisitions of new companies and lines of business, and the disposition of lines of business or other legal entities
  • Ensure timely filing of licenses, registration, annual reports, bonding, etc.
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special reports
  • Conform with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions
  • Conform to all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment
  • Make recommendations for process improvements and work collaboratively to implement projects
  • Assist with annual budgeting process as required
  • Complete special projects, audits and ad hoc analyses as required
  • Perform other duties as needed

Ideal Candidate Will Possess the Following Skills and Abilities

  • Proven superior communication skills including written and verbal presentation
  • Able to set and prioritize goals
  • Demonstrable professionalism with co-workers, management, auditors, consultants, and advisors
  • Strong general ledger, accounts payable, audit, tax and banking working knowledge
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance and or CPA preferred;
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in accounting, finance or related field
  • Minimum 5 years with supervisory/management experience.
  • Experience with distribution/construction company preferred
