Overview

The Dispatcher is responsible for the effective dispatching of local route drivers in the New York and New Jersey areas; managing, monitoring, and overseeing communication of routes in progress as well as communicating effectively and efficiently to the sales force and other members of the operations team.  The ideal candidate must be an excellent communicator via phone and e-mail, be able to remain calm and composed, especially in emergency situations, and possess a solid understanding of truck routing and all that bears upon truck delivery performance.

Responsibilities

  • Routing truck deliveries (updating time windows & address’s daily w/drivers as they return from their run) for around 10-20 trucks daily.
  • Ensure any special requests are clearly communicated as well as followed up in a timely manner.  Emails must be monitored and responded to before the end of the day on which emails are received.
  • Effectively dispatch drivers with all necessary paperwork, keys, phones, and uniforms. 
  • Ensure appropriate logs, DOT requirements are satisfied with the fleet, ensuring DOT compliance not to exceed 14 hours per shift.  This would include reviewing the driver’s attendance schedule and ensuring the delivery loads for each driver are balanced based on volume and geographical area.
  • Coordinate truck maintenance and emergency calls with truck leasing company within working hours.
  • Monitor routes in progress, (local deliveries and local pickups) pro-actively addressing potential issues as well as provide excellent communication to internal and external customers and customer service staff as necessary.
  • Receive all emergency and non-emergency calls, recording and communicating significant information when applicable.
  • Adhoc reports as needed.

Ideal Candidate Will Possess the Following Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience as dispatcher, router or relevant position related to delivery of product to a customer.
  • 1-3 years supervisory experience preferred
  • Warehouse/Logistics experience preferred
  • Very strong competency in Outlook, e-mails, and calendars
  • Very strong competency in Excel, Word
  • Strong attention to detail
  • High school diploma required
  • Selected candidate must be able to work morning and evening shifts for training
